Castroville water is hard Edwards water, with wells outside the city limits.
The city system pulls from the Edwards aquifer and runs hard. Outside the limits toward Hondo and LaCoste, homes are on wells that can carry iron. We come out Highway 90 regularly and quote it over the phone either way.

Municipal supply is typically high-teens grains per gallon with no iron — a straight softener job. Rural wells in Medina County vary more; a free hardness and iron test tells us whether an LPWS48K alone will hold up or whether an iron filter goes in first.
